Hello, I’m Rebecca George of Purple and Lime! Originally a Cincinnati native, I studied Art History & Geology at the University of Michigan. From there, I earned another degree in Fashion Design and Marketing from the American Intercontinental University in London, England. Highlights of my career include having several pieces from my graduation collection featured in the international fashion magazine i-D (UK, Feb. 2007) and working on men’s leather pouches for the movie Elizabeth: The Golden Age (which won an Oscar for Best Costume).
A few years after moving to Chicago from the UK, I started my own handmade business. Purple and Lime is a line of super-fun acrylic jewelry and faux fur accessories inspired by everything from food to states to wild animals. My products have been available on Etsy and in shops for over three years, so I’ve had lots of experience in online selling, wholesale, consignment, and craft shows.
By 2011 I was teaching fellow crafters in Chicago about handmade marketing and selling through Dabble.com (a small class company) along with offering private lessons. In June of 2012 I was invited to attend a training workshop at Etsy about selling on the site, so I got the chance to learn even more about teaching others. From there I started writing for Creative Income Blog about Etsy selling, craft shows, and everything else related to running a small crafty business. When I’m not working on Purple and Lime and writing about handmade selling, you can find me cuddling with my two cats and exploring all the amazing restaurants Chicago has to offer.
